About Meridian62

What we are

A weekly market publication written by students across universities, degrees and countries. Built by students. Made for everyone.

It's recruiting season, and we all get asked the same questions. What financial news are you following? What company do you actually watch? How do you stay on top of markets?

Meridian62 is our answer. Across eleven sectors — from industrials and semiconductors to biotech, energy, macro and consumer — students own a short list of named companies and follow them week after week. Not a summary of the news: a reading of what the companies themselves publish, written by people who study the engineering, science or economics underneath the sector.

Two things make it different from a university finance society. Every contributor owns a named list of companies and follows them for a whole term. And every piece is written so that someone outside finance can actually read it — every specialist term goes into Decoded, our glossary, in one plain sentence.

The name is the idea. A meridian is a line you can take a bearing from. Sixty-two is where we drew ours.

How we write

Five rules, no exceptions.

Read the source, not the summary.

Results announcements, capital-markets days, filings and press releases are public and free. Reading them directly is the single habit that separates this from summarising the news.

One company, one idea.

Every note is centred on one of the desk's equities and makes one point. If the idea cannot be stated in the first sentence, it is not ready.

Every number has a source.

Factual claims and figures carry a numbered reference to the document they came from — wherever possible, the company's own.

Plain English, always.

Written for the version of you from before you knew the jargon. Any term that needs defining is defined, and goes into Decoded.

Never advice.

We explain what is happening and why. We do not say buy, sell, cheap or expensive, and we do not recommend anything. Read the disclaimer.

How it works

A week at Meridian62

  1. Monday morning. Three or four desks go live on the site. Every desk publishes once every three weeks, on a fixed rota.
  2. During the week. The desks publishing next follow their companies — results, filings, competitor news, regulation, commodity moves — and choose the one equity with the most meaningful development.
  3. Friday 18:00. The desk's note is finished: 250–400 words, one headline that states the point, four short paragraphs, sources listed, jargon flagged.
  4. Sunday 20:00. The editors have checked it — structure, sourcing, plain English, nothing that reads as advice — and it is ready to publish.
  5. Every twelve weeks. The recap team turns a term of notes into one long read on what actually happened.
One market.
Many angles.
15 universities and counting

Who writes it

15 universities, 11 sectors, 40+ contributors.

Chemical engineers on chemicals. Aeronautical engineers on aerospace. Biochemists on biotech. Economists on rates. Each desk is staffed by people who study the thing the sector is made of.
